Position Title: Moving Ahead Program-Literacy & Essential Skills Classroom Assistant

Description: As part of the Moving Ahead team, the volunteer for Literacy & Essential Skills classroom assistant will help the teacher in the provision of support to the learners. The primary responsibilities for this position include facilitating one-on-one support to individual learners in a classroom setting under the direction of the classroom teacher.

Description: As part of the Moving Ahead team, the Program Administration volunteer will provide administrative and clerical support to Moving Ahead Counsellors to ensure effective and efficient program operations. Duties and Responsibilities: Contact clients and let them know about workshops, appointments, events; and accompaniment of clients to appointments throughout the Lower Mainland.

Description: To help newcomers integrate into Canadian Society by introducing them to Canadian culture and/or to the Canadian labour market. Main duties and responsibilities are : build a friendship by learning about the lives, customs and needs of the newcomer, practice conversational English with newcomer on an ongoing basis, connect newcomer to local resources and services and help newcomer navigate the job search process by assisting with resume and interview preparation.

Description: In this position you will be helping staff with admin related tasks. Main responsibilities include:
• Reception Duties
• Organizing files
• Calling clients to inform them about upcoming workshops and events
• Calling clients to conduct surveys
• Helping staff during workshops
• Assembling packages for distribution to clients and volunteers

Position Title: Volunteer-Income Tax Clinic Volunteer
Duration: Minimum 30 hours in March and April (Monday to Friday-4 hour shifts)
Location: DIVERSEcity, Guildford Library, City Centre Library, Strawberry Hill Library and Semiahmoo Library

Description: In this position you will be helping low income individuals file their income tax. Main responsibilities include:
• Completing the free CVITP training offered by Canada Revenue Agency
• Preparing Income Tax Returns using Canada Revenue software
• Interacting in a friendly and respectful manner with the clients
• Demonstrating patience and good listening skills

Position Title: Volunteer-English Conversation Circle Assistant
Duration: Minimum 30 hours

Description: In this position you will be helping new immigrants practice their conversational English. Main responsibilities include:
• Attending the informal conversation circle groups and offering conversational practice and feedback to new immigrants learning English
• Preparing activities that promote cultural exchange and social sharing
• Creating an inclusive and welcoming environment that allows clients to feel comfortable
• Demonstrating patience and good listening skills

Position Title: Volunteer-Computer Class Facilitator/Assistant
Duration: Minimum 30 hours
Location: DIVERSEcity in Newton

Description: In this position you will be helping new immigrants learn computer skills. Main responsibilities include:
• Designing lesson plans for beginner and/or intermediate level computer classes
• Facilitating 5 lessons of 2 hours each over a 5 week period
• Assisting the main facilitator by helping clients at their workstations
• Demonstrating patience and answer clients’ questions

• Accompanying clients on fieldtrips to various locations
• Interacting with the clients and engaging them
