Parenting Workshop Series (Moving Ahead Workshop Series)

Parenting Workshop Series (Moving Ahead Workshop Series)

This activity is provided to adults who meet CIC eligibility requirements for the Moving Ahead Program and is offered by a DIVERSEcity clinical facilitator over 4 weekly sessions of 3 hours each.

This Parenting Workshop series focuses on promoting healthy families through the development of positive parenting. Many newcomers are not aware of the cultural differences between parenting responsibilities between their countries of origin and Canada, including legal, health, leisure and educational one. In addition, because children integrate quicker and learn language more easily, parents do not always understand or are unaware of how to continue to parent their child in this larger context. Topics include How My Role as a Parent Has Changed; talking to my 6 to 12 year old; Parenting a Teenager; Creating Opportunities for Family Time through Recreation and Activity; Legal responsibilities; parental roles in children’s education.
