Director, Community Development

Laura Mannix is a social justice advocate dedicated to promoting human rights and instilling a collective narrative within the community of equity, diversity and inclusion. A child of immigrants and inter-racial union, her lived experience has provided a valuable foundation for her role as Director of Community Development at DIVERSEcity Community Resources Society, overseeing its Settlement & Integration, Community & Volunteer and Refugee & Specialized Programs. Prior to immigrating to Canada, Laura has worked in Australia, Thailand and the United Kingdom working with Asylum Seekers in detention, in human rights law supporting Refugees through the legal determination process and in human rights advocacy and impact campaigns. Laura sits on many settlement related committees in B.C including the Refugee Strategy Working Group, the Surrey Local Immigration Partnership and the Refugee Livelihood Lab Advisory Committee and continues to volunteer in her local community of Mount Pleasant in Vancouver.
