While many of us look forward to sunny weather, rising temperatures can be dangerous, especially for children, older adults, outdoor workers and people living alone or without reliable access to cooling. That’s why DIVERSEcity has created 10 simple steps to help you Beat the Heat.
But safety isn’t just about what you do for yourself – it’s about how we can look out for one another. A quick phone call to an elderly neighbour, checking in on a friend with mobility issues, or sharing this graphic with your community can go a long way.
Libraries, malls and community centres can serve as great cooling spaces. Fans and A/C are great at home, but even shaded areas and light clothing can make a difference.
Whether you’re out running errands, gardening outdoors or relaxing at home … as climate change makes extreme weather more common, these summer safety habits are more important than ever.
