DIVERSEcity launches Youth for People and the Planet in BC

New program supports youth taking action in their communities

DIVERSEcity Community Resources Society is excited to announce the launch of Youth for People and the Planet, a youth leadership and micro-grant program designed to support diverse youth across British Columbia in creating positive change in their communities.

Open to youth aged 15–30, the program focuses on empowering participants from BIPOC, Indigenous, 2SLGBTQ+, newcomer and underserved communities to develop and implement community-based projects that address pressing social and environmental issues — from climate justice to reconciliation, inclusion and democracy.

Participants will take part in eight weeks of skill-building workshops, mentorship and support to help participants develop leadership abilities and craft proposals for community-based volunteer projects. They will also have a chance to be one of 300 winning proposals that receive a $5,000 micro-grant to bring their project ideas to life.

“Youth have the passion, creativity and lived experience to drive meaningful change in their communities; they just need the right tools and support,” says Tina Balachandran, Senior Manager, Equity & Community Engagement at DIVERSEcity. “Through this program, we’re not only building leadership skills, but also amplifying youth voices from underrepresented communities to take action on the issues that matter most to them — from environmental racism and climate resilience to Indigenous land stewardship and economic equity.”
