Newcomers from DIVERSEcity programs and financial professionals from Coast Capital connect
On June 12, 2025, DIVERSEcity partnered with Coast Capital to host a speed-networking event at their headquarters in Surrey. The event brought together newcomers and job seekers from the community with finance professionals from Coast Capital’s Mainland Finance Team — led by Chief Financial Officer Daryl Hosein — for a meaningful exchange of experiences, encouragement and career advice.
Participants moved through a series of focused conversations, where Coast Capital team members shared practical tips and honest insights about job searching in Canada.
“It takes time — even for us,” one team member shared. “It’s hours and hours of sending out resumés. Just be patient and work through the process.”
CFO Daryl Hosein reflected on the event’s impact, saying,: “The conversations were really engaging, and I know I learned a lot from the group.”
He encouraged participants to lean into their lived experience.
“If someone can connect an experience they’ve had with traits we’re looking for — especially if they’re unique — don’t shy away from it.”
Alina Felea, a Financial Manager with Coast Capital who immigrated to Canada 25 years ago, shared her personal story of resilience.
“I was a journalist back home, but I started here selling shoes and delivering newspapers. It took me 10 years to get where I wanted. There is hope — don’t give up.”
From the DIVERSEcity team, Alison Ireland, Senior Manager, Employment Programs, acknowledged the emotional challenge of the job search.
“We always say searching for the job is probably harder than the job itself. Patience is the biggest thing you need — no one really can prepare you for how long it can take.”
David, a DIVERSEcity client from Colombia, appreciated the chance to learn directly from Coast Capital’s team.

“The people gave me good feedback about getting a job, their experiences in Canada, and what skills I need. It was a good event.”
The speed-networking session underscored the power of connection — reminding everyone in the room that behind every job title is a journey, and behind every success story is community.
