Whether you’re camping, fishing or cooling off on a hot day, it’s important to know that 70% of drownings in Canada happen in open water, not pools. That’s why water safety matters more than ever. ![]()

Here are a few tips from the Lifesaving Society BC & Yukon to help keep you water safe:![]()

🏊 Never swim alone. Many drownings happen when someone is by themselves. ![]()

🚫 Avoid alcohol near water. 41% of adult drownings involve alcohol. ![]()

🛥️ Wear a lifejacket when boating. ![]()
![]()
BC’s wilderness is beautiful — but it’s even better when we look out for one another. ![]()

Many newcomers to Canada didn’t grow up around lakes or with access to swimming lessons, but here in BC, water is everywhere — from beaches to backyard pools. According to research, 31% of drowning victims were non-swimmers.![]()
