We are currently experiencing the worse humanitarian crisis in history as we witness the highest levels of
displacement on record.
The DIVERSEcity Refugee Support Fund has assisted newly arrived refugees in Surrey through emergency support by providing financial aid for:
- medical treatment not covered by insurance
- emergency housing and accommodation
- baby care supplies
- family reunification
- funding refugee claimants permanent residency applications
- food and rent

Noor and her family came to Canada as Government Assisted Refugees from Iraq. On limited assistance and in the process to apply for Persons With Disabilities she has been suffering from multiple ruptured discs in her back and neck and Osteoporosis.
There has been no solution and her state has been deteriorating. Noor could not walk which impacted her ability to learn English and be an active, contributing member within the community.
Through DIVERSEcity’s Refugee Support Fund, she was able to purchase a custom back brace that has been prescribed by her doctor which was not covered through MSP or the Income Assistance office. Now, she is able to walk and sit without feeling the severe pain she has without this brace.
“I no longer count the seconds to reach my destination, and somehow I start to enjoy walking! I can live my life now. Thank-you!”
– Noor a recipient of the DIVERSEcity Refugee Support Fund.
