What is one of the many benefits of volunteering? The friendships that blossom! Meet Bala and Janis, two volunteers who helped at our Income Tax Clinic, who gleefully shared how one benefit of volunteering is the opportunity to "make some friends." When asked why she chose to volunteer with DIVERSEcity, Janis shares that it was an “opportunity for me to use a skillset I have to give back to the community, especially for newcomers.” Bala shared that what she likes about volunteering is learning about others' culture and “meet different people from different communities and sometimes they share how they came or their language and that fascinates me.” Their contributions, along with all our other volunteers, have made a significant impact on our community. Thank you! Happy National Volunteer Week! Want to volunteer with us? Visit www.dcrs.ca/volunteer/#NationalVolunteerWeek #NVW2024 #volunteer #thankyou #EveryMomentMatters ... See MoreSee Less

It’s National Volunteer Week and we want to shine a spotlight on the volunteers helping our Therapeutic Activation Program for Seniors (TAPS). TAPS supports seniors experiencing barriers in accessing community resources with group exercise classes and more. This program is an important service that could not exist without the compassion and commitment of our volunteers. Their dedication helps bring smiles and support to the seniors in our community. “I think volunteering is very important for everyone to do at least once in their life,” says Sanam, TAPS volunteer. Congratulations to all our little graduates of the Bond to Literacy program! Over the past 12 weeks children enrolled in our early literacy program have learned important skills to get them ready for elementary school! The program had extra special attendance, with 7 grandmoms actively participating in all 12 sessions! Today is the last day of our annual income tax clinic and we want to extend a big thumbs up to all who volunteered and helped make it possible! Beginning in March, this annual tax clinic offered an opportunity for people to connect with a DIVERSEcity volunteer, trained by the Canada Revenue Agency who helped prepare and file their tax return. Volunteers seated themselves alongside clients, guiding them through the tax filing procedure while providing helpful tips and assistance. This National Volunteer Week, we want to thank all the volunteers who showed up and helped this tax season go smoothly!
