May 27 to June 2, 2024, is Anti-Racism Awareness Week in BC — an important opportunity to reflect on both systemic and individual racism in our society. Racism manifests in many forms, from blatant hate to subtle microaggressions, all of which leave people feeling unsafe and unwelcome.Mable Elmore, Parliamentary Secretary for Anti-Racism Initiatives, emphasizes that “being actively anti-racist requires us to be open to learning and listening to each other. It’s key that we recognize and celebrate our differences to foster empathy, acceptance and unity.”Let’s commit to having open conversations about racism this week — and all year round. Together, we can challenge stereotypes and explore ways to promote diversity and inclusivity. Educate yourself, speak up and help create a safe space where everyone feels valued and heard.Read Parliamentary Secretary Elmore's full statement here: news.gov.bc.ca/releases/2024AG0028-000809 Government of British Columbia #antiracism #endracism #stopracism #saynotoracism #istandagainstracism #saynotoracism ... Last week, DIVERSEcity’s #BIPOC Unified Inclusive Leading Organization Development for South Fraser (B.U.I.L.D.S.) Project and Vantage Point hosted the first of three training sessions running from May to July, designed for non-profit professionals who are driving their organizations forward. We are grateful to have Marialejandra Reyes, Knowledge Philanthropist at Vantage Point, facilitate the first session. Titled "Leading from Within," this session created a space for dialogue where participants could: • Assess their personal leadership strengths • Appreciate the importance of authenticity and personal accountability in their leadership • Understand the impact of their behaviour on others • Clarify their personal values and leadership philosophy We are looking forward to the upcoming sessions and continuing our partnership with Vantage Point!
