Happy Citizenship Week! We are thrilled and deeply honoured to share that DIVERSEcity has hosted its first Citizenship Ceremony, marking a significant milestone in our community. It's a celebration of diversity, unity and the journey to becoming an official Canadian, and we are so happy to have hosted it. Citizenship Judge Carol-Anne Hart reminded the new Canadian citizens that “in Canada you can be who you are and succeed and thrive.” Thank you to Judge Hart, the Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Canadian Immigration and Citizenship, Dennis Leon of Kwantlen First Nation and Clerk of the ceremony Kris Liu. A further thank you to the Platform Party, specifically Mr. Sukh Dhaliwal, MP, Surrey – Newton, Mr. Ken Hardie - Member of Parliament, Fleetwood - Port Kells, Royal Canadian Mounted Police Constable Matthew Wright and Neelam Sahota, CEO of DIVERSEcity. Congratulations to the candidates on becoming Canadian citizens and to the handful of DIVERSEcity alums who received their reaffirmation certificate. #ImmigrationMatters #MyCitizenship #ForPeopleForCommunities #SurreyBC #Delta #Newton ... DIVERSEcity
This week is Victims and Survivors of Crime Week (May 12–18, 2024). Throughout the week we will be highlighting our gender-based violence services and resources offered at DIVERSEcity. We start the week highlighting our Multicultural Victims Outreach Services, which provide safe and protective support for self-identified women who have experienced intimate partner violence through practical assistance and support. These outreach services are often combined with our Stopping the Violence Counselling services. DIVERSEcity’s Stopping the Violence Counselling program uses trauma-informed therapeutic approaches to support self-identified women survivors of violence in their healing journey. One of the women we helped through Stopping the Violence shared: “Having no family members and friends in Canada, I needed someone to hear my story and validate my feelings. I learned to stay motivated and work toward my goals. I learned about the cycle of abuse and increased my self-esteem and self-worth.” DIVERSEcity’s services are free, compassionate, culturally informed, confidential and available in several languages. For more information, email intake@dcrs.ca, call 604-547-1202 or visit www.dcrs.ca/our-services/gender-based-violence-services/ #ForPeopleForCommunities #SurreyBC #Delta #victimsandsurvivorsofcrimeweek2024 #victimsandsurvivors #JAGcanada #ImmigrationMatters ...
