In 2024, through DIVERSEcity’s B.U.I.L.D.S. (BIPOC Unified Inclusive Leading Organization Development for South Fraser) Project in 2024, we supported grassroots BIPOC organizations to help grow their services and impact in the community by accessing Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) federal funding.
Through the B.U.I.L.D.S. Project, we partnered with four partners to conduct a four-part webinar series on the following topics:
These videos serve as a self-paced learning tool, providing B.U.I.L.D.S. organizations with educational content in an easy-to-find and consumable format on topics related to strengthening their organizational and service capacity in the settlement sector. Following the presentations, resources for further reading and deepening will be included in a resource guide currently being developed.
Part One: Indigenous Knowledge
Presented by Kim Haxton, March 22, 2024
Part Two: Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI)

Combined with the webinars, the B.U.I.L.D.S. Resource Guide, is a pivotal resource for BIPOC organizations.
Two “Connect and Learn” sessions, as part of the B.U.I.L.D.S. Program, were designed to provide valuable insights from experienced leaders in the settlement sector.
In the first session, Ryan Drew, Director of Integrated Services at S.U.C.C.E.S.S., brings more than 25 years of experience in the settlement sector. She shares her extensive background and explores critical topics such as making a meaningful impact in the sector, expanding your organizational scope and fostering collaboration among different players in the sector.
The second session features Ana Maria Bustamante from the Burnaby Local Immigration Partnership and Tina Balachandran from the Surrey Local Immigration Partnership. They delve into their roles as conveners, bringing together diverse stakeholders to discuss newcomer integration and the essential support services needed when moving to British Columbia. The session concludes with insights on how you can get involved with your local partnership and the significant impact LIP tables have on the community and stakeholder relationships.
We encourage you to watch these insightful sessions at your convenience. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn from leaders in the field!
