Multicultural Outreach Program for Families

Supporting the wellbeing of newcomer families in Surrey and Delta with children from birth to six years old

Newcomers with young children often experience cultural, social and other barriers in accessing  early years support and services available in our communities. DIVERSEcity’s Multicultural Outreach Program for Families connects them to the services and information they need to support children’s early learning (from birth to six years old) and the wellbeing of the entire family, including middle years children.

Our multicultural early childhood education outreach workers can help families with children from birth to six years old in English, Tigrinya, Arabic, Punjabi, Hindi, Farsi and Dari and Pashto.

With the help of this program, you can:

  • Enjoy play-based activities, such as games, singing and arts and crafts, to help you raise happy, healthy children
  • Access services at DIVERSEcity and in the community to support children’s early learning and the wellbeing of your entire family, including middle years children, such as family resource programs, recreation centres, libraries, Strong Start programs, food banks, language programs, settlement services, public health outlets and more
  • Join workshops to learn valuable information on your children’s development and parenting
  • Receive home visits if you are facing barriers in accessing services in the community

Families with children up to six years old, of any immigration status, for whom English is not their first language, will also be invited to join:

  • Bond to Literacy program (Delta), a 12-week early literacy program to help children start reading and get ready to start elementary school. DIVERSEcity is a licensed provider of this program, which guides parents in reading and doing fun activities with their children.
  • Tigrinya Storytime at Surrey Libraries, for families with Tigrinya as a first language.
  • Early Years Drop-in every Wednesday 3-5 pm (permanent resident with children 0-6, resident of Surrey), (located at Umoja Compassion Operation Society)
  • Behaviour Intervention Program (Surrey)

Who’s eligible?

Newcomers and multicultural families with children from birth to six years old who live in Surrey or Delta.
