Canada Learning Bond

Save for your child’s education with Canada Learning Bond!

Did you know the Government of Canada can provide FREE money for your child’s future post-secondary education plans? Open to low-income families, including newcomers and refugees, the Canada Learning Bond offers an initial $500 to help you start saving for your child’s education after high school. Your child can also receive an additional $100 every year until age 15. In total, a child can receive up to $2,000 in a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP).

Who’s eligible?
  •  If your child is born January 1, 2004, or later, and your family’s annual income is less than $48,535
  • Permanent residents
  • Refugees and refugee claimants
  • Canadian citizens
  • Temporary and/or foreign workers
  • Students
How to get started

Our DIVERSEcity settlement workers can help you through this process in your first language. Here are the steps to applying:

  • Schedule an appointment with one of our settlement workers.
  • Open a no-cost RESP account and apply for the Canada Learning Bond (10 minutes).
  • Connect with the financial institution to complete the application process (one to two weeks).
  • If eligible, receive your child’s Canada Learning Bond into the RESP (may take up to two months).
